DC Top Wholesalers

Only plan advisors know how important their DC wholesaler can be in building, managing and growing their practice. We call them “DC Wingmen” because if they are doing their job, they have your back. 

And only advisors know which Wingmen are really good and truly add value. 

That’s why NAPA set out to identify the top wholesalers who serve the DC market — the truly elite Wingmen. (To learn more about our unique selection process, see below.) Our first annual Top DC Wholesalers list, published in March 2014, quickly became an industry staple. 

In March 2015 we completed work on our 2015 list of the top 100 DC wholesalers. Due to an overwhelming response by voters this year — a 10-fold increase from the initial response in 2014 — we have increased the number of top Wingmen from 75 to 100. Since there are an estimated 1,400 record keeping and DCIO external wholesalers working directly with advisors, the 2015 Wingmen list represents the top 7% of the industry.

Selection Process

One of the things that sets the Wingmen list apart from other published lists is that it is based on a nominating/voting/selection process that taps the knowledge of NAPA’s nearly 8,000 members. Here’s how the three-part process works: 

  • Firm Partner Nominations: The process starts with NAPA’s DCIO and record keeper Firm Partners submitting their wholesalers for nomination. (For the 2015 list, this step has already been completed.) Wholesalers who work directly in the field with plan advisors are eligible for nomination; internal relationship managers are not eligible. 
  • Voting: Next, NAPA members and others vote for their favorites using our online voting tool (now closed). Wholesalers may nominate themselves, but votes by wholesalers for themselves will not be counted. Similarly, votes for wholesalers by colleagues at their own firms will not be counted. Lastly, votes submitted from a Hotmail, Gmail or Yahoo account will not be counted. During the voting process, members and subscribers who don’t see their favorite wholesaler on the list may request to have them added to the online nomination list by emailing the wholesaler’s name, home state, email, and provider name to SAMTeam@napa-net.org. Voting ended on Jan. 9, 2015.
  • Selection: The final vote tallies are reviewed by the NAPA Top Wholesalers Blue Ribbon Committee, which selects the top wholesalers. The Blue Ribbon Committee is made up of a group of NAPA leadership and NAPA advisor volunteers.
